A little bit about me…
I’ve been a keen climber since the age of 15 which means I’m now in my third decade of climbing. I hold the nationally recognised higher qualification of Rock Climbing Development Instructor (RCDI) which is awarded by the Mountain Training Association of which I am a member. I am also a member of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC).
As a professional climbing instructor I am obliged to have Public Liability Insurance and a current Wilderness First Aid certificate. I also have fully comprehensive business related car insurance. I have been DBS checked and I hold a certificate for that.
My climbing life has taken me all around the British Isles & Europe and into Morocco & Canada. I love sea cliffs, multi-pitch mountain crags, Scottish Winter routes and cascade ice climbing. I’m perfectly happy bouldering or sport climbing on a sunny day too though!
For over twenty five years I have worked for Rock On, an independent specialist climbing shop based at Mile End Climbing Wall which is my usual indoor wall. As a result, my knowledge and expertise in climbing equipment, its use and history, is somewhat extensive.
The trips I organise are often single days to places like The Peak District, Portland, or the Wye Valley. Or multi-day trips to Snowdonia, Gower or The Lakes.
I can take a single person climbing or up to four maximum. These ratios mean everyone gets a good share of quality climbing time and focused attention when learning new skills. I’m happy to bring in an extra instructor if larger groups are keen. Any bespoke trip can be arranged within reason, so whatever your aims and ambitions – just ask.
Climbing for me is a way of life. It can be physically tough, mentally challenging and incredibly rewarding. It can take you to the most unexpected places, and show you life at the most peculiar of angles. It can be mind-blowingly exhilarating and occasionally reduce you to tears. It has brought me many strong friendships and I’ve forged tight bonds with my climbing partners over the years. I thank my lucky stars that my best mate introduced me to it all those years ago.
Let’s go climbing!
Jim
